What is a RTI?

The Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 mandates that government bodies provide timely responses to citizens’ requests for information. Under this Act, any citizen can request information from a “public authority” — a government department or state instrumentality — which is generally required to respond within thirty days.

How to use it?

To file an RTI, you must complete an application form specifying the department from which you seek information, along with a brief description of your request. The form should include your personal details and, together with the required fee, be submitted to the Public Information Officer (PIO). Alternatively, you can file the RTI application online.
