Yes, there is no requirement for the registered office to be a commercial property. A residential or commercial address can be used for this purpose.
Changing your business address does not require an alteration of the Memorandum of Association (MoA), as long as the new registered office remains within the same state. However, if the office is being shifted to another state, the situation clause in the MoA referring to the state must be amended accordingly.

The Registrar of Companies (RoC) must be notified of any change in the registered office within 30 days of the move by filing the required documents. If the office is being shifted to a different state, prior approval from both the RoC and the Regional Director (RD) is mandatory.

A registered office cannot be situated outside India.

All books of accounts must be maintained at the company’s registered office. However, if the Board of Directors decides to keep them at any other location within India, the company must notify the Registrar in writing, providing the complete address of the new location where the books are maintained.
